Blood pressure is a combination of the strength of the heart beet and the elasticity of the blood vessels. Normal values are between 120 to 130 for systolic and 80 to 85 for diastolic mm Hg. High blood pressure or arterial hypertension is pathological condition characterized with systolic blood pressure above 140 mm Hg or diastolic blood pressure over 90 mm Hg.
Reasons for Hypertension
Genes have a major role in etiology of this disease. But, usually the reasons for high blood pressure come from unhealthy diet and lifestyle like:
- unhealthy food
- salty and spicy meals
- excessive coffee consumption
- excessive alcohol consumption
- physical inactivity
Target the Symptoms
It is easier to diagnose high blood pressure – hypertension than low blood pressure – hypotension. Half of the people that suffer from hypertension are not aware of their condition, one quarter of the people that suffer from high blood pressure are treat hypertension but, only half of them are treat it properly and regularly.
Symptoms of high blood pressure
- Fatigue and Sleepiness
- Ringing in the ears
- Blurred vision
If you don’t have the above symptoms, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have high blood pressure. The best way to maintain your health is to check the blood pressure at frequent intervals.
Late diagnosed and impropriety treatment of hypertension can cause serious health problems, like disordered heart work, heart attack, stroke etc.
Hypertension is diagnosed by the following steps:
- measuring of the blood pressure, several days in a row – in the morning and in the evening (2 hours before measuring the person must not do physical activity).
- blood test, laboratory analysis.
- heart EKG.
- ultrasound of the kidney and of the adrenal glands.
The most important thing is locating the source for high blood pressure and start treating it.
Therapy for hypertension is necessary. The goal of the therapy is reducing the blood pressure as close as possible to the limits of the normal blood pressure. There are two types of therapy:
- Without use of medication – change of lifestyle. First of all, the patient should regulate his diet – reduces intake of salt and fatty foods, greater intakes of fruits and vegetables, fish, milk products with reduced fats. Garlic, celery and parsley helps in lowering blood pressure. The patient should has moderate and regular physical activity (at least 3 times a week) and should reduce using cigarettes and alcohol or not to use them at all. This way of lifestyle lowers the fats in the body, reduces weight and lowers the blood pressure.
- Therapy with medications, is treatment for serious cases and should be taken with a doctor’s prescription, of course in combination with healthy lifestyle.
