Cranberries originate from North America where the Indians had used as a remedy for many diseases. Later, cranberries has been taken in Europe where all of them medicinal properties were discovered.

Cranberries are available in many forms, including fresh cranberries, dried cranberries, 100% cranberry juice and cranberry sauce.

Cranberries are antioxidants

Cranberries are among of the top five foods with the highest antioxidant content per serving. Antioxidants are substances that protect cells from oxidative stress and free radicals damages. Free radicals are constantly produced in the human body. Inhalation of air, food, exposure to smoke or sun cause free radicals. Experts believe that free radicals cause heart diseases, cancer and other diseases.

There are hundreds of antioxidants in the food. Antioxidants that are found in cranberries are: anthocyanins, ellagic acid, quercetin, selenium, Vitamins A, C and E.

Antioxidants are good for human health. Food from plants such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains contain more antioxidants than products of animal origin, such as meat and dairy products.

Blood pressure

Maintaining normal level of the blood pressure helps in reducing the risk of stroke and heart diseases. Sodium and potassium are two minerals that modify blood pressure. Food rich in sodium can increase blood pressure and food rich in potassium can reduce blood pressure.

Cranberries, as part of a healthy diet, can help in maintaining normal blood pressure levels. Cranberries has naturally low sodium but also contain potassium. The choice of foods such as cranberries, which contains more potassium than sodium is a way to help maintain normal levels of blood pressure.

Cranberries reduce triglycerides and LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol – important steps in managing the risk of heart diseases.

Urinary tract

Cranberries contain a compound known as (PACS), they have strong antibacterial properties. PACS attacks bacteria, which is on the bladder wall and helps is ejecting bacteria through urine.

Cranberry improves the general quality of life.
